不只是zero！英语中多彩多样的零！~

昨天忽然想到了当时英国老师说的有关英语中“零”的用法，也许有的同学会说：“学这么久英语“零”我还不会说了！不就是zero吗？”其实，还真不只这一种说法，就在我滤清思路敲击键盘前，下意识地检索了一下互联网，于是发现了如下这篇文章，一边看一边不住点头。心想：嗯！写的超级全面，如果是我应该也写不出什么新意了吧！于是直接“拿来”与大家分享。

一、在数学中的表达

数学中的0可用nought，naught，zero表示。nought多用于英国，naught多用于美国。美国常用zero代替nought和naught。其次，把数目一个一个地读出时，0可以读作/+u/。

1．0读作nought，naught，zero。例如：

5 后面加两个0成了500。

Put two noughts（naughts，zeros）after a five

make five hundred．

100是一个1和两个0写成的。

A hundred is written with a one and two noughts．（naughts，zeros）．

2．数目中的数字一个一个地读出时，0可读作oh/+u/。例如：

205.04读作 two oh five

point oh four

3．作为运算所得的结果，0还可以读作cipher，cypher，nothing。例如：

Five minus five is equal to cipher．

Six minus six leaves nothing．

二、电话号码、房间号等编号中的0读oh/+u/。例如：

Tel．No．304—6120180读作telephone number three oh four six one two ohone eight oh（在 three oh four后要稍加停顿）

“拨 2014057”读作 Dial two oh one four oh five seven

Room 305读作 Room three oh five

No．60090读作 number six oh oh nice oh或 number six double oh nice oh

邮政编码 610569可说成 postcode（或 zip code）six one oh five six oh

三、年份中的0可读oh/+u/，也可用其他方式。例如：

1903读作 nineteen oh three或 nineteen and three或 nineteen hree或 nine-teen hundred and three

1700读作 seventeen double oh或seventeen hundred

2000读作 two thousand

2005读作 two thousand and five

350 B．C．读作 three fifty B．C．或 three hundred and fifty B．C．

1980s（1980's）读作 nineteen eighties

四、温度中的0

温度的“零度”、零下中的“零”读作zero。例如：

0℃读作zero centigrade degree

-10℃读作 ten degrees below zero centigrade，也可读作 minus ten degrees或 ten degrees of frost

五、球赛比分中的0

球赛比分中的0读nil或nothing。例如：

The score is 3—0（three—nil或 three—nothing）．比分是3比0。

We won 4—0（four to nil或 four to nothing）．我们以 4比 0获胜。

The score is 2—0（two nil或 two nothing）in their favour．他们以2比0领先。

在网球赛中，常用love表示0分。例如：

John leads by 30—0（thirty love）．约翰以30比0领先。

六、用and表示0

1．3位以上的数，个位数前的0用and表示。例如：

706读作 seven hundred and six

4009读作 four

thousand and nine

《一千零一夜》英语是“The Thousand and One Nights”。

2．0在两个数之间，表示较大的量下附有较小的量时，可用and。例如：

a year and three days一年零三天

three yuan and five fen 3.05元

七、表示比喻意义的0

含有比喻意义的，在英语中可以用nought，zero，nil等表示。其实际含义是“无”、“没有”、“最低点”等。例如：

Our population has reached zero growth．我们的人口增长率是零。

Our hopes fail to zero．我们的希望化为乌有。

All his work came to naught when the fire destroyed the house he

wasbuilding．当大火毁掉了他正在建造的房子时，他的一切工作就等于零了。
